ANCILLARY CHARGES – LEISURE/CORPORATE/VAN RENTAL
All vehicles are hired subject to the terms of conditions set out in the Bluu Car Rental standard Rental Agreement, copies of which are available at all rental branches and on the internet under terms and conditions of rental;
The group/models mentioned may be altered without notice. Bluu Car Rental reserves the right to substitute vehicles reserved should the vehicle not be available at time of hire;
Rental beyond the stipulated termination date must be authorised by Bluu Car Rental. Should the extended rental not be authorised by Bluu Car Rental the vehicle will not be covered by any form of waiver and the vehicle shall be held at the sole risk of the renter.
International visitors are required to produce their passports when collecting their vehicle. Foreign Driving licences are acceptable provided the language used (printed thereon) is English and there is a photograph present. Should a licence be in any other language, other than English, we require an International Driving Licence to be produced at commencement of the rental or an official translation by a consulate / embassy.
Waiver charges will increase per driver by R550 N$570 in South Africa or Namibia, in the event of a co driver being nominated.
This applies to Renters under the age of 23 or if the renters driver’s license is valid for less than 3 years. R173 (N$170) per day
Rates
The minimum rate charged will be for a period of 24 hours. Rates are quoted per 24-hour period from the time of rental until the return of the vehicle. Rates are quoted in the currency of the country of rental origin.
R = South African Rand, N$ = Namibian Dollar
NOTE-: Any rate including UNLIMITED MILEAGE is only applicable to international visitors holding a foreign passport & driving license with a return airline ticket to their country of residence.
VAT: All rates are inclusive of VAT, where applicable. (South Africa 15%, Namibia 15%)

Fuel: Rates quoted include maintenance and oil but exclude petrol/fuel. Fuel is for the renter’s own account.
Refuelling Fee:All BLUU Car Rental vehicles are rented with a full tank of fuel. Every vehicle is refuelled on termination of the rental at the standard government legislated fuel tariff regardless whether the fuel gage indicates that the vehicle is full. Vehicles that are refuelled at independent stations are not guaranteed to be filled to BLUU Car Rental standards. A standard refuelling fee will be charged. Fuel is charged to and from the branch where the vehicle is delivered and it is for the renter’s own account. – R46 (N$48) per rental
Remote Location Surcharge: A remote location surcharge is levied due to higher logistic costs of operating at these locations. (South Africa 5%) (Namibia If applicable) per rental
Delivery & Collection or Lost Key Call Out Fee: This charge applies to deliveries/collections within 25km of the BCR rental office. Delivery and collections outside city limits (>25km) will be charged at the applicable fee plus an additional kilometer charge.
South Africa – During office hours: Monday to Friday 08h00 to 17h00 = R675 + R25 per km over 25 km
– After hours & weekends: R1225 + R25 per km over 25 km
Namibia – During office hours: Monday to Friday 08h00 to 17h00 = N$700 + N$25 per km over 25 km
– After hours & weekends: N$1225 + N$25 per km over 25 km
Lost Key Call Out Fee excludes the cost of replacing the keys – this will be levied separately. R650 (N$650) + R25 (N$25) per km over 25 km
No Show Fee: A no show fee of R500 (Namibia – Full Value of Rental) will be charged to the renters account if the renter does not show up to collect their rental vehicle on the time and date specified on the booking. A 3 hour grace period will apply from the collection time on the booking.
Roadside Assistance Call Out Fee: Non Mechanical – a charge of R950, (N$950) per instance will be charged to assist with lost keys, lack of fuel, Flat tyre etc.
Pre-Sign Administration Fee: Pre-Sign rentals are limited to car groups A, B, C only, any exception to be authorised by Regional Manager. – R300 per rental.
Baby/Child Seat: Available by prior arrangement: – R570 (N$570) per rental. Liability in the event of damage or loss: Full charge to replace
GPS Rental: Handheld navigation system available by prior arrangement: – R150, (N$155) per day. Liability in the event of damage or loss: R1650 (N$1650)
Bicycle Carrier Rental: The Thule Passage 2 bike carrier is available at all major airports in South Africa by prior arrangement: R150 per day. Liability in the event of damage or loss: R2522
Trailer Rental: Available in South Africa by prior arrangement – limited to certain car groups and certain locations: R550 per day (to be confirmed at time of reservation) No one ways allowed.
Claim Administration Fee: An administration fee will be charged on ALL liability waiver claims. This includes claims where the renter/driver has taken Super Collision Damage Waiver and/or Super Theft Loss Waiver. The liability amount on the waivers contributes towards the repair cost of the vehicle; the claim administration fee covers the cost of processing the claim. This includes items such as quote gathering and legal services.
o Claim Administration Fee Above R2500 – R1000 per incident
o Claim Administration Fee Below R2500 – R400 per incident
o Claim Administration Fee Above N$2500 – N$1230 per incident
o Claim Administration Fee Below N$2500 – N$440 per incident
Assessors Fee: All damage sustained to the rental vehicle in excess of R8000 (N$8000) vat incl is appraised by an independent assessor. The evaluation has a cost element, but provides assurance to the renter and/or their insurer that the damage costing is legitimate, not inflated and consistent with acceptable industry standards.
o Assessors Fee Above R8000 – R940 per incident
o Assessors Fee Below R8000 – R400 per incident
o Assessors Fee Above N$8000 – N$940 per incident
o Assessors Fee Below N$8000 – N$375 per incident
Overdue Rental Administration Fee: Should the rental vehicle not be returned by the agreed date & no prior arrangement has been made to extend the rental, the vehicle will be collected by BCR and an Overdue Rental Admin Fee will be charged. – R1300 (N$1300) per incident
Traffic Fine Administration Fee: Should the renter receive a traffic fine whilst renting the BCR vehicle, a Traffic Fine Administration Fee will be levied per fine to cover the cost of redirecting the fine to the renter. – R425 (N$450) per fine
Skipped Service Fee: A BCR representative will be in contact with the renter to advise of the service due on the vehicle. Should the vehicle then exceed the prescribed manufacturer service interval whilst on rent a charge will be applicable as per manufacture charge per rental.(N$9445 applicable for Namibia)
Towing Charges: The renter will be liable for the full cost of the service rendered.
A cleaning / valet service may be charged at the sole discretion of BCR. R675 (N$800) per incident
We will place an authorisation hold on your American Express, Diner’s Club, Visa or MasterCard credit cards;
BCR does not have the facility to allow the use of Debit or “Electronic use only” cards as a method of payment.
The authorisation will be held in our favour for the duration of the rental (but not paid over to us). Should the rental be extended, or an incident take place, a further hold will be placed on your card to ensure all costs are covered by the authorisation held. Once the rental has been finalised, the actual rental amount will be charged to the credit card and the authorisation hold will be released.
Should you require assistance with the release of authorisation, kindly contact our Customer Care team at customercare@bcr.co.za with your rental reference number/ID or passport number and they will assist with this process.
Due to the high risk associated with rentals over a weekend, an additional authorisation is required to ensure there are sufficient funds in the event of an incident.
A one-way fee is charged when a renter collects the vehicle from one BCR location and returns the vehicle to a different BCR location. The one-way fee will be quoted at time of reservation/quote. The one-way fee covers the cost of relocating the vehicle back to the original location/depot.
Despite the caution taken by Bluu Car Rental and the driver alike, theft and accidents do occasionally occur. Bluu Car Rental, however, provides four forms of liability waivers for the renter against financial loss; namely namely Collision Damage Waiver (CDW), Super Collision Damage Waiver (SCDW), Theft Loss Waiver (TLW), and Super Theft Loss Waiver (STLW), Minor Damage Waiver, Tyre & Glass Waiver & Hail Damage Waiver.
In the event of an accident where the vehicle is damaged or written off, the liability of the renter is limited to the liability as set out in the WAIVER table under “Standard Liability” irrespective of fault or cause.
This is provided that the renter is not in breach of any provision of the rental agreement. The renter will be liable for the full amount of damages to the vehicle, or the full replacement value of the vehicle in the event of an accident, where the vehicle is damaged or written off.
Full liability and or breach of contract, whichever may be applicable, should the vehicle be damaged whilst travelling on gravel roads, dirt roads and or any other surface which Bluu Car Rental considers unsuitable for the specific vehicle hired.
In the event of an accident where the vehicle is damaged or written off, the liability of the renter is limited to the liability as set out in the table below (under “Super Liability”) irrespective of fault or cause.
This is provided that the renter is not in breach of any provision of the rental agreement. The renter will be liable for the full amount of damages to the vehicle, or the full replacement value of the vehicle in the event of an accident, where the vehicle is damaged or written off.

In the event of theft, hijacking or loss of the vehicle and/or any accessories, the liability of the renter is limited to the car group liability as set out in the table below, (under “Standard Liability”) irrespective of fault or cause.
This is provided that the renter is not in breach of any provision of the rental agreement.
Should the renter decline to take TLW, the renter will be liable for all damages suffered by Bluu Car Rental, resulting from theft, hijacking or loss of the vehicle and/or any accessories.
In the event of theft, hijacking or loss of the vehicle and/or any accessories, the liability of the renter is limited to the car group liability as set out in the table below (under “Super Liability”) irrespective of fault or cause.
This is provided that the renter is not in breach of any provision of the rental agreement. Should the renter decline to take STLW and TLW, the renter will be liable for all damages suffered by Bluu Car Rental, resulting from the theft, hijacking or loss of the vehicle and/or any accessories.
Minor damage that costs less than R2500 (N$2500) to repair will be covered when purchasing this waiver. If the cost of damage exceeds R2500 (N$2500), the minor damage waiver will not be applicable.
Minor Damage Waiver does not cover damage caused by water; damage to the undercarriage of the vehicle or damage to tyres and windscreen – a separate waiver can be purchased to cover tyres and windscreen.
Minor Damage Waiver – R45 (N$65) per day
Damage to tyres and glass (including windscreen) is excluded from the waiver liability if no theft or collision of the vehicle has occurred. Tyre and Glass waivers can be purchased at the time of rental to waive this risk provided that the renter is not in breach of the rental agreement – R75 (N$175) per day
Hail damage is not covered by CDW, TLW, SCDW, STLW. Hail Damage Waiver can be purchased at the time of rental to waive this risk.
Hail Damage Waiver: R75 (N$70) per day
Water, Sand and undercarriage damage are not included in the rates. The renter is liable for full repair to / replacement costs of the vehicle.
Standard Liability is applicable to CDW and TLW, Super Liability is applicable to SCDW and STLW.
• Southern African Residents: The renter/driver must provide proof of private insurance cover for the BCR vehicle if the purchase of liability waivers is declined.
• International Visitors: The purchase of liability waivers is COMPULSORY. The rental will be declined if the renter/driver does not purchase Collision Damage Waiver and Theft loss waiver OR Super Collision Damage Waiver and Super Theft Loss Waiver.
Personal property is not covered by the waivers reflected above.
Waivers do not include any damage to the vehicle incurred as a result of potholes, dust storms and/or sand.
Towing charge is for the renter/driver’s account.
Please remember that under South African law, all accidents must be reported to the nearest police station within 24 hours of the accident having taken place.
In accordance with the terms and conditions as set out in Bluu Car Rental, Rental Agreement, all accidents must be reported to the nearest Bluu Car location and all necessary documentation completed within 48 hours.
Please note that non-compliance of the above could result in your claim being repudiated.
Medical Assistance – 24 hour service for all medical emergencies, be they accident or illness related
Free transportation to the nearest appropriate medical facility by ground or air in the event of a medical emergency:
– Access to medical doctors, ICU, nursing sisters and paramedics;
– Assistance with admission to the medical facility;
– As many hospitals require a deposit upon administration, Bluu Assist will guarantee payment of such deposit up to an amount of R2 000.00, which will be recovered from the renter;
– Monitoring of the patient’s condition and, on request, updates to family;
– Telephonic medical advice for minor ailments;
– Telephonic immunisation or prophylaxis advice;
Please note that these services are access only. The renter will be liable for the cost of the service rendered.
Roadside Assistance in South Africa
The 24-hour Bluu Assist call centre has access to a national network of motor vehicle service operators for mechanical breakdown and/or vehicle accidents.
When requested by the customer, Bluu Assist will:
Dispatch an approved towing vehicle to remove your rental vehicle to a specialist workshop.
Provide roadside assistance for common minor problems. For example: flat tyres, lost keys, lack of fuel, etc.
• Relay Message Service: Bluu Assist will relay messages to family and colleagues in the event of a collision or breakdown if requested by renter.
• Vehicle Lockout Service: (Customer liable for key & lock replacement cost)
In the event of keys being locked in the vehicle, a locksmith will be appointed to unlock the vehicle, at the renter’s expense. Lost keys – please see above.
• Flat Tyre Assistance: If the vehicle’s spare tyre is inflated and serviceable, it will be installed to replace the flat tyre at the renter’s expense. When a serviceable spare tyre is unavailable, towing will be provided, at the renter’s expense.
• Fuel Delivery: If the vehicle runs out of petrol/fuel, a limited supply of petrol/fuel will be delivered to the renter to enable you to reach the nearest petrol/fuelling station. (Cost of the petrol/fuel and delivery fee for the renter’s account).
• Battery Jump Start: If the vehicle’s battery is dead due to non -mechanical failure , the Bluu Assist team will jump-start the vehicle or replace the battery ( replacement charge for customers account).
Assist with accommodation and travel arrangements.
